AUG 5 - AUG 30
9:30pm, 90 mins
Set in a West End theatre, the acclaimed hit new musical comes to Edinburgh! Following the lives of the stagiest people in theatre – the Front of House staff – and portraying the hilarious, ridiculous and frequently moving stories of ice cream sellers who dare to dream... A preview performance of a new jukebox musical (Oops! I Did It Again, The Britney Spears Musical), a three-year workplace romance on the rocks, an untrained newbie on her first shift and an amorous manager under pressure to cut costs. What could possibly go wrong?
USHERS: The Front of House Musical began life at the Hope Theatre, Islington, where the 5-star rave reviews and great audience response promoted it to the main show at Charing Cross Theatre, where it now leaps to the Edinburgh Fringe. Written by Yiannis Koutsakos (music and lyrics), James Oban (lyrics) – both @Westendproducer Search for a Twitter Composer (#SFATC) finalists – and BBC comedy actor James Rottger (book), all of whom have ushering experience, the production is “energetic, G&T-fuelled satire, and chock full of in-jokes” (What’s On Stage).
The show has big, bold company numbers, Fosse-like ice cream tray choreography and a script with heart, soul and a nice-bucket full of laughs – “everything a musical should be and more” (Everything Theatre)!
***** “Cheeky lyrics and musical merrymaking poke fun at the world of musical theatre, but always with warmth and affection” (Gay Times)
***** “truly the perfect blend of funny, tragic and totally relatable” (Official Theatre)
***** “a cheeky take on the life behind the scenes at a West End theatre; a must see for even the most reluctant musical goer (…) a fantastic night out” (Everything Theatre)
