Nov 29th, 6pm to midnight, the area around Canning Town Station
In November 2013, neon illuminations, interactive projections and glowing installations lit up the streets of Canning Town in the London Borough of Newham for London’s first ever Light Night. It was a festival of light, community and energy - completely free and open to all. The programme of interventions, installations and events was designed to entertain and illuminate, inspire and celebrate. Now, the Brick Box return for the second, brighter and bigger Light Night Canning Town 2014.
This year’s theme of ‘The Fire and the Stars’ is centred on the ancient tradition amongst many communities of gazing into flames and up at the stars, whilst telling stories and freeing creativity, and will include spectacular light installations from Loop.pH and Creatmosphere, participatory performances from Blanc Sceol and puppetry and story-telling from Samuel Wyer (National Theatre, Punchdrunk) and Jacob V Joyce, amongst many others, including Speirs + Major’s light installation in 4 iconic Canning Town shop fronts.
Light Night Canning Town is produced and delivered by The Brick Box CIC, an arts organisation and social enterprise with a track record of creating interesting happenings in unusual spaces including markets, parks, pubs, squares, service lifts, vault spaces, motorway underpasses and temporary structures.
